  I Remember

Can I one remember the memory the of one’s birth ?

I remember mine.

From every rose petal what mysterious,

What sorrow  from every fashionable window of

                                                                   the city

Looks out at me,

What sorrow stares at me from a double-decker bus

I learnt that bitter truth in my boyhood.

I remember well

Some one hurriedly hanging a coloured bodice.

I remember there was a solitary meadow that

Stretched to the distant horizon and by it stood

Our house behind the house there flowed a

                                                   rippling river

And across the river stood a primordial hill.
